Kasenda village continues to build its resilience, and now boasts an enviable reputation in Uganda as a community that has transformed itself. Coming from a level of extreme poverty, poor health outcomes and family violence, it now is seen as an example of how communities can turn this around.
While the assistance we have provided, generously made possible by your support, has contributed, the underlying mantra has been to provide Kasenda a “hand up”, not a “hand out”.We have maintained the philosophy that our role is not to “provide fish”, but “teach them how to fish”. I am pleased to say that we are now regularly observing activities that are the result of the Kasenda community taking charge of their opportunities and challenges, not waiting for someone else to step in.
This has been possible only through the strong and consistent leadership Wilson has played in the community, the importance of his continual involvement as a leader and mentor cannot be overstated.
